A restaurant refurbishment project at a major London hospital, with new staff only area and bookable meeting pods
RDA were commissioned by the client to refurbish an outdated hospital canteen. We were tasked with not only updating the aesthetics, but also to reconfigure the space for an improved customer experience.
The client wanted a fresh and welcoming area for staff, visitors and patients to relax and enjoy a variety of great tasting hot and cold meal options.
They also wanted a staff only area and a series of bookable meeting pods.
Customer experience was at the forefront of design decisions on this project. We opened up the space, moving tills for a more logical layout.
Now, customers follow a clear route through the restaurant as they make their food and drink choices before relaxing in comfy seating areas.
The neutral backdrop is punctuated with pops of colour from the teal seating in the booths and the blush pink dining chairs. Decorative Moroccan-inspired tiles feature on the counter facings along with subway tiles on the walls for a clean and modern aesthetic.
Digital signage is mounted on a black gantry for up-to-date menu information, saving valuable time for staff.
We created a brand-new staff-only room, built from scratch and the meeting pods needed their own dedicated ventilation units. It was through great communication with the client that we were able to build these new rooms in line with agreed timelines and budgets.
Now staff, visitors and patients can enjoy a meal away from the clinical bustle of the rest of the hospital. In the new staff only area, consultants and nurses can relax on their breaks, away from stress, for some much-needed down time.
