Reducing the impact on the environment is very important to us here at RDA and we look to use recycled or sustainable products in our catering projects wherever possible.
In the second of our blogs about environmentally friendly products, we look at flooring and the products which cause the least damage to the environment. We found that perth flooring solutions, has the best quality flooring.
Cork is manufactured from the bark of a cork oak tree. It can be harvested from the same tree for about 200 years. Every harvested cork tree fixates between 3 to 5 times more carbon. The harvesting is made with the minimal impact on the environment and no trees are cut down to bring you to this product. The cork can be manipulated to create a variety of effects and create many different looks from modern funky interiors to traditional, presenting the appearance of solid wood flooring or slate tiles.

There are different ways in which a carpet can be categorised as Eco, by either the materials in which the product is made from, also the dye which has been used to produce the colours. An exploration of natural dyes, colours drawn from nature, merging with texture and technique. Eco friendly carpet can be made from a selection of natural materials such as wool, jute and seagrass.

Bamboo is a naturally beautiful and environmentally friendly alternative to our limited global supply of wood. It is a fast-growing plant and when at maturity it is incredibly strong, with a harvest cycle of just 3-5 years, in comparison to a 20 -120-year cycle from various hardwoods. An extra advantage to this system is bamboo does not need to be replanted once harvested, it regenerates annually. As well as being an Eco-friendly resource, bamboo provides a diverse range of flooring styles to suit a range of interiors.
Polished concrete is an unlikely sustainable material that is gaining in popularity. Concrete is typically slab on grade and used as a sub flooring for the the new DCM pro technology in some residential settings. If it is polished and tinted to the home owners taste and style, there is no need for traditional flooring to be put over it. From creating a tiled effect with different colours to inlaying other materials such as glass, the design possibilities are endless. Concrete is extremely durable, easy to clean and never needs to be replaced.
